To track symptoms such as bloating, stomach cramps, or headaches in your Diary alongside your food and exercise data, you can either create a Custom Biometric (Gold feature) or use the Notes feature (all users).
Recording symptoms alongside your food and nutrition data can help you identify patterns and trends over time.
Track a symptom with a Custom Biometric
There are a variety of Biometrics available in Cronometer for tracking things such as Mood, Energy Level, and Stool (Bristol Stool Reference). Learn how to add a Biometric in the mobile app or on the web version.
However, if the symptom or health marker you'd like to track isn't already available, users with a Cronometer Gold subscription can create a Custom Biometric.
Custom Biometrics can be used to track personalized health information such as bloating, gas, stomach cramps, headaches, or other symptoms, and record their severity or occurrence over time.
You can choose your own name and unit of measurement. For example, you could create a 'Stomach Cramps' Biometric and use a '1–10 scale' to record the severity of your symptoms.
To add a Custom Biometric in the mobile app:
- Tap the orange + at the bottom of the screen to open the bottom console
- Tab Add Biometric
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap Add Custom Biometric
- Enter the name of your custom biometric (e.g. 'stomach cramps') and a unit of measurement (e.g. 'Scale of 1-10')
On the web version:
- Open your diary or dashboard and click to on Biometric
- Click Add Custom Biometric in the top-right corner of the biometric window
- Enter a name (e.g. 'stomach cramps') and unit of measurement (e.g. 'Scale of 1-10') for your custom biometric
You can then use Charts to look for relationships between your biometrics, nutrition, and other tracked data over time, or use Custom Charts (Gold feature) to plot your symptoms against specific nutrients to spot triggers.
Track symptoms using Notes
If you don't have a Cronometer Gold subscription, or if you'd prefer to record symptoms in more detail, you can also add Notes to your Diary.
For example, you could use a Note to describe when you experienced bloating, what it felt like, or any other details you want to remember.
To add a Note to your Diary in the mobile app:
- Tap the + button at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Add Note.
- Enter your symptoms or observations (e.g. 'felt bloated 30 minutes after breakfast')
- Tap Save.
On the web version:
- Open your diary or dashboard and click to on Note
- Enter your symptoms or observations in the text box provided (e.g. 'felt bloated 30 minutes after breakfast')
- Click Save Note
You can also add photos, assign Notes to Diary groups, and add a timestamp (Gold feature).
If you'd like to review your Notes together or search for patterns and trends, you can export your Diary data as a .csv file from the Cronometer website.
